2008 Summer League Champions! Viewmont rallied from three goals down with 1:49 remaining in regulation to defeat Timpanogos, 5-4 in a shootout to win the 2008 high school hockey summer league championship August 15th at the Salt Lake County Ice Center in Murray.
Chris Russell and Colton Smith scored in the shootout, while goalie Tyler Wolfley held the top-ranked Timberwolves to just one score, as the Vikings capped an improbable comeback. Trailing 4-1, they netted three goals in just over a minute late in the third period to force overtime.
Taylor Weaver, Sam Kitchen and Russell (on a penalty shot) scored for Viewmont in the furious rally. Kyle Mitchell and Adam Davis assisted on Weaver's goal. Isaac Pitt had an assist on the score by Kitchen.
Earlier in the game, Austin Facer and Weaver assisted on a goal by Russell.
Viewmont took its first and only lead in the game-ending shootout. The Vikings trailed 2-0 after two periods and eventually slipped into a three-goal deficit before the comeback.
Wolfley and Aaron Jorgensen teamed for the victory in goal for the Vikings.
Viewmont went 12-2-1 in the summer league (winning nine straight games at one point) and avenged its two losses and tie in the regular season

| VIEWMONT HOCKEY POSTSEASON AWARD WINNERS |
Thursday, July 12, 2007 — Congratulations to the following Viewmont athletes for winning postseason awards from Utah High School Hockey:
TIM HIXSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
VIEWMONT HONOREES
2005-2006: JAKE MILLBURN
1999-2000: CHAD WALLACE
1997-1998: ANDY ARMSTRONG
1996-1997: NATHAN MULLINS
1995-1996: JARED ANDERSON
ABOUT THE AWARD: Several years ago, Ray and Vivian Hixson established a trust fund in the name of their son Tim, with the Salt Lake Amateur Hockey Association (SLAHA) - High School Division, (along with the University of Utah), as the beneficiaries. When the Trust was finally funded, high school hockey received approximately $75,000. These funds were initially in the hands of SLAHA, but by the time the fund was ready to begin operation, the SLAHA - High School Division had become its own entity - Utah High School Hockey, Inc, (UHSH). At that time the funds were spun off to UHSH and under the supervision and direction of Ray Hixson, were placed in an irrevocable trust administered by Wells Fargo Bank. That trust is still operational and is designed to be so in perpetuity.
The trust was directed to distribute a portion of its annual income each year to two worthy candidates, as determined by UHSH, to pursue their higher educational goals.
JEFFERY GLASS ROBINSON MVP AWARD
VIEWMONT HONOREES
1992-93: EVAN RIDDLE
1990-91: LANCE OSCARSON
ABOUT THE AWARD: Shortly after Jeff´s death as a result of a one-car roll over in North Salt Lake, his mother Claire was approached by one of Jeff´s old coaches with the concept of establishing an award in his memory. As a result, Utah High School Hockey now awards the "Jeffery Glass Robinson Most Valuable Player Award" each year to two young people from among its ranks who are voted "The Most Valuable Player" by the coaches as Utah High School Hockey´s Most Valuable Players.
These young men and women embody the very essence of the sport of ice hockey. Their skills have been honed and on display for many years, with this prestigious award the culmination of their high school hockey careers. It is not always the highest scorer or the stingiest goaltender who wins but the player who, in addition to being a great player, also demonstrates leadership skills, team support, sportsmanship, effort and "coachability". Take a moment and browse these great young people. They are the best Utah High School Hockey has to offer and they are special.
GARY JONES UTAH HIGH SCHOOL HOCKEY COACH OF THE YEAR AWARD
VIEWMONT HONOREES
2006-07: KEN KITCHEN
ABOUT THE AWARD: Named after longtime Utah High School Hockey administrator, coach and contributor Gary Jones, who passed away at a trustees meeting in 2006. |
